Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale has launched the "Our Flowers" photo exhibition that reimagines how we see aging through the enduring beauty and symbolism of flowers.

This exhibition was created in collaboration with HRC senior citizens. Each image is a powerful portrait, not just of a flower but of the older adults who selected, styled, or inspired it. The images draw a parallel between their life stories and the natural elegance of full-color blooms.

Curated by Iana Veselova, Life Enrichment Coordinator at the Center’s Russian Bilingual Services Program, "Our Flowers" aims to challenge perceptions of aging by portraying elders as vibrant, resilient, and full of life, just like the flowers they are celebrated alongside.

“Flowers have long symbolized growth, vitality, and transformation,” said Veselova. “In this exhibition, they serve as a visual metaphor for our seniors—their dignity, grace, and enduring beauty. These portraits reflect not decline, but blossoming in later life.”

Research supports this connection:

  • Flowers stimulate emotional well-being and reduce anxiety
  • Their colors and fragrances create calming environments
  • The act of sharing flowers fosters human connection and community, especially vital in later years

This is the second installation in HRC’s "The Way of Art" series, which celebrates the creativity and humanity of older adults. The project is made possible by the generous support of friends and the Russian Bilingual Services Program advocates.

Exhibition Dates: August 5 – September 18, 2025, Daniel’s Art Gallery, Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, 1200 Centre Street, Roslindale, MA. Admission: Free.
