Artists Wanted For Salem's 'Mural Slam'

SALEM, MA – Salem is seeking artists to paint onsite on Artists' Row for two days during Salem Arts Festival.

The installment is called "Mural Slam," a public arts project along the brick walls at Artists' Row across from Old Town Hall and Derby Square. According to a statement from Mayor Kim Driscoll's office, the area was originally built as a marketplace.

"As we open the 13th season of Artists’ Row we are very excited to invite artists to paint onsite for two days during the Salem Arts Festival," said Deborah Greel, Public Art Planner. "This is a great opportunity for the public to see art in the making."

The deadline to apply is May 10.

Artists can apply on their own or as part of small teams. The painting will be done on Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Only acrylic paint is allowed. There will be 10 walls available, mounted with primed plywood sheets 8' by 4'.
