Civilian Helps Catch Salem Robbery Suspect
Police caught the suspect with the help of a civilian who followed the man after he ran from a store in a blue mask.

SALEM, MA – When an eyewitness saw a man in a blue mask run from the Salem 7 store on North Street, he suspected the store had been robbed and decided to tail the getaway car.
Around the same time – Tuesday at 10:20 a.m. – Salem Police received a call that an armed robbery had just occurred at the Salem 7 store. The witness that was tailing the suspect called police and gave them the plate number and the location of the car, according to the police report.
Once Salem Police got to the same area of the car in Peabody, the witness was told to pull his car over. Lt. Brian Gilligan ordered the suspect out of the car after he pulled into a driveway on Paleologos Street. The suspect, Daniel P. Karakoudas, 30, of Peabody, was arrested on charges of armed assault to rob, violating a municipal ordinance, and driving with a suspended license.
