Jewish Parenting Class

The Jewish Foundation of the North Shore (JFNS) will offer Ikkarim: Parenting through a Jewish Lens in two locations,
Beverly and Marblehead, this fall. The courses are designed to help parents of young children explore core values (ikkarim) that can strengthen family and parent-child
relationships and will be taught by two experienced Jewish educators.

In Beverly, the course will be offered on Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Temple
B’nai Abraham, 200 East Lothrop Street, on 10/30, 11/20, and 12/4.

The cost for three sessions is $36 individually or $60 with a friend. Free babysitting will be offered and spring sessions will be scheduled separately. Co-creator of Ikkarim Jacob Meskin will return to the North Shore as the instructor for this location.

In addition to his inspirational Ikkarim teaching, Meskin serves as the education director of Hebrew College’s Me’ah
adult learning program and holds a Ph.D. in philosophy.

Funded by JFNS as well as a grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation (JJF), a California-based charitable organization devoted exclusively to supporting the education of
Jewish youth, Ikkarim focuses on creating a warm space for parents to learn, connect and share with one another in a serious and meaningful way.

Discussions will focus on how language helps to shape values, how to teach children balance between self-
expression and community solidarity, how to foster parent-child relationships that encompass respect as well as love and intimacy, and how Jewish holidays and ritual
celebrations enhance family life. Scholarships are available.
