Major Peabody, Salem Artery Roadwork Project Proposed
The proposed Boston Street/Main Street Improvements project will be the subject of a virtual public hearing on Sept. 27.
SALEM, MA — A state construction proposal involving Boston Street and Main Street through Salem and Peabody will be the subject of a state Department of Transportation virtual design hearing on Sept. 27.
The proposed project consists of pedestrian, bicycle, traffic signal and roadway improvements on Boston Street from the Peabody city line to Essex Street, and on Main Street in Peabody, from the Salem City line to Howley Street.
Sidewalk reconstruction, off-road bike lanes and shared use paths, upgrades to
all traffic signals along the corridor, landscaping, stormwater improvements and utility relocations are included in the proposal.

The project would also require a secure right-of-way and temporary or permanent easements, for which Peabody and Salem would be responsible.
The hearing is to provide the public with information on the project and solicit feedback. The state DOT said all views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered "to the maximum extent possible."
