Squirrel Runs Up Man's Leg, Chases Him

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. When charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department:

Wednesday, Oct. 12

  • At 4:05 p.m. police received a call from someone who had witnessed a woman being forced into a vehicle on Lafayette Street. The witness said the woman was grabbed by the man by her hair before he twisted her arm backward and forced her into the car. Police could not locate the vehicle.
  • At 4:39 p.m. police placed a man into protective custody after they found him sitting in a wheelchair in the middle of traffic at the intersection of Boston and Essex streets. According to police, the man does not usually use a wheelchair and was just using it as a chair.
  • At 5:30 p.m. two people walking along Foster Street told police a squirrel ran up the man's leg and then chased him down the street. Police could not find the squirrel.
  • At 7:30 p.m. Salem Police recieved information from Gloucester Police about a person selling an illegal firearm in Salem. Police searched the person's home but did not find a firearm.
  • At 10:10 p.m. Police investigated a car break-in in the East India Mall garage.

  • At 10:20 a.m. Police and Fire responded to a gas station at Highland Avenue and Swampscott Road for a gas spill. According to police, a man was pumping gas when he "became distracted while looking at the high prices" and spilled gas on the ground.
  • At 11:48 a.m. parish staff told police a man had come in asking for rental assistance. When the staff told the man they no longer provide it, a parishioner gave the man $100. Staff then realized the man had been arrested in Danvers the day before and feared they had been scammed. Police checked where the man was staying and told the parish they likely were not scammed.
  • Hypodermic needles were found on Bridge Street at 4:26 p.m.

The following people were arrested:

  • Paul Bryant Woolley, 44, 116 Lafayette St. was arrested on a warrant.
  • Stuart Bernard Gear, 54, 29 Fountain St., Haverhill, was arrested on a warrant.
  • Robert Elmer Uzdavinis III, 30, 22, Park St., was arrested on a warrant.
