Market Basket Takes Out Ads, Plans Job Fairs Next Week

The company is looking to hire after ordering employees to return to work Monday or be replaced.

On the heels of the company’s announcement Wednesday that employees need to return to work by Monday or face being replaced, Market Basket officials placed full page ads in local papers Thursday morning announcing job fairs next week.

On Wednesday co-CEOs Felicia Thornton and James Gooch said in a statement they want all associates back to work by Monday, Aug. 4, and reiterated that anyone who comes back to work for the chain can do so without any fear of being penalized for their actions. Market Basket workers stopped working almost two weeks ago in protest of former CEO Arthur T. Demoulas’ dismissal. They have said they will only work for Arthur T.

Job fairs are now set to begin next week and according to the ads say the company is looking for store directors, assistant directors in Eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The company is hiring corporate positions, as well, including accountants and grocery buyers.

The job fairs scheduled for Monday, Aug. 4 and Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 4-8 p.m. are for any current employees looking to take different positions within the company or seeking a promotion.

The Wednesday, Aug. 6 job fair is open to the public and will run from 1-8 p.m.

The job fairs will be held at the company’s IT computer center at 340 Ballardvale St. in Andover.
