Men Caught Punching Car Mirrors

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police log:

Sunday, Oct. 30

  • At 5:13 p.m. police aided a parent with a choking baby in the backseat of their car on Marlborough Road.
  • At 5:56 p.m. shoplifting was reported at the Family Dollar.
  • At 6:46 p.m. a loud bullhorn was reported in Washington Square.
  • At 7:52 p.m. police responded to a domestic disturbance on Osborne Street. According to the police log, a guest refused to leave a party and spit on cupcakes another guest had made. 
  • At 8:26 p.m. police responded to Jefferson Avenue for a road rage incident. A woman driving on Jefferson told police she heard something hit her car. She then pulled over and saw a man walking a dog and asked him why he threw something at her car. The man told police he did not throw anything.
  • At 8:58 p.m. Police responded to Derby Street for men punching car side view mirrors. Five minutes after police told the men to leave the area, dispatch got another call about the men causing damage to another car. Two men were arrested: Christopher Lefavour and Michael Blaney (see below).
  • A Summit Street resident was issued a noise citation for a loud party at 11:57 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 31

  • At 1:03 a.m.  near Salem Common.
  • At 10:28 a.m. police responded to a minor vehicle accident on Highland Avenue.
  • At 2:08 p.m. a man told police someone stole his wallet out of his pants pocket on Canal Street. The man chased the suspect who then pulled a knife of him, the man said. The suspect took his cash and gave him back the wallet.
  • At 4 p.m. police responded to a car accident on Canal Street.

The following people were arrested:

  • James P. Jackson, 45, 6 Second St., Ipswich, was arrested on two warrants.
  • John W. Kemp the 4th, 42, 4 Bedford St., was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
  • Joseph McGrath, 45, 526 Western Ave., Lynn, was arrested on a warrant.
  • Christopher Lefavour, 21, 12 Hickory Lane, Salem, N.H., was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property over $250.
  • Michael A. Blaney, 20, 20 Village Green Road, Hampstead, N.H. was arrested and charged with malicious destruction over $250.
