No Bail for Malden Man Accused of Shooting at Salem Police Officer

Salem, MA - Jeremiah Wooden, 22, of Malden, pleaded not guilty today in Salem District Court to armed assault with intent to murder and related charges, for allegedly trying to shoot a Salem police officer when the officer tried to take him into custody on several outstanding warrants on Thursday evening, April 14, on Fairfield Street in Salem.

Judge Matthew Machera ordered Wooden held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, which is scheduled for May 19.

Wooden is also charged in the Salem case with assault and battery on a police officer, attempted assault and battery with a firearm, possession of a firearm during a felony, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle after license suspension, subsequent offense, and assault by a dangerous weapon.

Essex Assistant District Attorney James Gubitose represented the Commonwealth at arraignment and has been assigned to prosecute the case. Wooden is represented by Attorney Joseph Collins.
