North Shore High Schoolers Work To Clean Beaches
Beaches in Salem and Lynn could soon look a lot cleaner, thanks to local high school interns who want to make a difference.
SALEM, MA — High school interns in Salem and Lynn are working alongside environmental organizations to help reduce single-use plastics, provide more reusable options for restaurant takeout packaging and combat cigarette litter.
From food wrappers to straws, restaurants contribute significantly to marine debris, according to Salem Sound Coastwatch, a NOAA Marine Debris partner. That's what their new "CoastSmart" campaign aims to address.
As part of the campaign, local high school interns are doing service projects and engaging with their communities. They'll also ask restaurants to adopt "green practices," like composting or offering alternative takeout packaging.
