Wenham Resident Named NSMC Chair Of Pediatrics

North Shore Medical Center has named a Wenham resident to Chair of Pediatrics.

SALEM, MA – Brian Sanders, M.D., has been named Chair of Pediatrics at North Shore Medical Center, replacing Mark Mandell, M.D., who stepped down in March. Sanders currently serves as Medical Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Lowell General Hospital, and will begin his new role at NSMC in July.

As chair, Sanders will oversee a broad array of pediatric services at NSMC, including the Pediatric Emergency Department, newborn care in the Birthplace and Special Care Nursery and a wide range of pediatric outpatient services. He also will work closely with the Center's community pediatricians and family medicine physicians to provide a network of exceptional care to North Shore children and families.

"We are excited about the experience, leadership and strategic vision that Dr. Sanders brings to NSMC," said Mitchell S. Rein, M.D., NSMC Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer. "He will be a great asset in helping us to grow our pediatric services in the future."

Sanders is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. Prior to his current role at Lowell General Hospital, he served as a pediatric emergency medicine physician at Children’s Hospital Boston, Children’s Specialty Group in Norfolk, VA, and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Associates in Atlanta. A graduate of the University of Virginia and the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Sanders completed a residency and fellowship at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk. He has held academic appointments at Harvard Medical School and East Virginia Medical School.

Currently, he is an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine.
