'Nosferatu Live' Returns To Salem For 2 Shows This Weekend
The North Shore's own Arpeggione Ensemble will accompany a screening of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent horror masterpiece.

SALEM, MA — The North Shore-based Arpeggione Ensemble will provide a musical accompaniment to the 1922 silent horror classic "Nosferatu" for two performances at Cinema Salem this weekend after last year's sold-out performance.
The group will perform a matinee at 2 and an evening performance at 8 using historical instruments, harmonium, flute, clarinet, and strings, to play the original 1922 score.
"We forego headphones or other electronic aids commonly used to perform film music today," said Arpeggione co-director Andrea LeBlanc. "The musicians are organically pacing the music frame by frame, as theater orchestras did in the silent film era. It adds to the drama and suspense and highlights why Nosferatu is such a classic."
