Peabody Police Seize 100+ Pounds Of Marijuana, Arrest Two
A Salem man and a Peabody man were arrested as part of the investigation, but a woman with a gun and a 13-month old infant was not charged.
PEABODY, MA — Police conducting a drug investigation in the area of John Road in Peabody arrested two men and seized more than 100 pounds of marijuana Friday. Police charged Gary W. Cioffi Jr., 36, of 9 John Road in Peabody, with trafficking in more than 100 pounds but less than 2,000 pounds of marijuana and two counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Marco A. Sosa, 28, of 2 Wheatland Street in Salem, was charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class D drug and child endangerment.
Both men were scheduled to be arraigned in Peabody District Court on Monday. Police said they had received numerous complaints about suspicious activity in the neighborhood and set up an investigation on Friday. Cioffi and Sosa were riding in a car with a woman and a 13-month-old child when police stopped the car on Lynnfield Street. The woman was in possession in of a gun, but the Peabody police statement did not identify her or make clear if she would be charged.
Police seized about 3.5 pounds of marijuana from the car then executed a search warrant at 9 John Street, where they recovered items used in making and selling marijuana and THC-infused edibles. They also recovered more marijuana, THC vaping devices, pharmaceutical drugs, hallucinogenic mushrooms and an unspecified amount of money.
