We’re entering the season when generous people are looking for organizations to support. There are many deserving non-profits in our area providing critical services, and Plummer Youth Promise is one of them.

Plummer Youth Promise began serving the Salem community in 1855 and today serves hundreds of children each year throughout eastern Massachusetts. Its work is premised on the belief that every young person needs a family unconditionally committed to nurture, protect, and guide them to successful adulthood. Every day the staff at Plummer works to set a standard of excellence that improves outcomes for young people in foster care, whether they live in the organization's group residence in Salem, with a foster family, or in their first apartment.

On any given night, Plummer serves 80 children and youth ranging in age from birth to 22. Like all children, each one has wishes unique to them. Younger children want toys, older youth want laptops, young adults want small appliances or sometimes furniture. Being in foster care, none of these youth has an expectation that their wishes will be granted.

While no one can change the fact that they are in foster care, or that they have aged out of foster care into an independent living apartment, Plummer Youth Promise can help them experience the holidays in a manner similar to their peers. Help from the community is needed to do it.

To learn more about Plummer Youth Promise and its gift drive, visit www.Plummeryouthpromise.org or contact Community Partnerships Manager, Jessica Norton, at jnorton@plummeryouthpromise.org. To ensure delivery to youth, who are located throughout Essex and Middlesex counties, Plummer needs to receive items by December 8th.
