Man Arrested at Murphy's After Alleged Assault on Pedestrian Mall

Police said the victim's father chased the suspect through the crowded pedestrian mall.

Police said a Bridgewater man was arrested Saturday on assault and battery and disturbing the peace charges after he allegedly assaulted a female and her father pursued him.

At 6:47 p.m. Saturday, police were called to Murphy's on a call a man was being detained by bystanders.

Police met with the victim and her family. The victim told police she was grabbed in the crotch by the man, later identified as , who was sitting on a curb just before the alleged assault.

The victim's father then chased the man along Essex Street, which was "extremely crowded," all the way to .

According to police, unnamed pedestrians stopped the man as the father screamed for help to stop him.

Police said all people present identified the man as the assailant.
