SALEM, MA — The first week of classes at Salem High School saw two separate incidents involving police. In a letter to students and families Friday, Principal Samantha Meier outlined the incidents and stressed that neither posed a threat to students at the school.

In the first incident an adult "who would typically have routine and legitimate access to school grounds attempted to pose as a transfer student seeking to enroll in Salem High School," Meir wrote. Staff intervened and a no trespass order was issued to the person, barring them from school property.

"At no point was this individual alone with students and at no point did this individual pose a threat to faculty or students," Meier said.

Then on Friday morning, a photo of two Salem High seniors with BB guns showed up on social media. The weapons are banned on school grounds. An assistant principal called Salem police, who arrived at the school to investigate.

"I want to be clear: No weapons were found on school property and at no point was anyone in our student body in danger," Meir said. The letter did not say if the two students faced disciplinary action. Meier said administrators were alerted about the post by a "member of the school community."

"Social media posts that can be perceived as threatening in nature are absolutely unacceptable," she said. "Please talk to your students over the weekend about the importance of reporting any concerning behavior they may witness on social media, as well as the importance of maintaining a respectful social media presence."
