Power Plant Feasibility Study Final Public Meeting Tuesday

The final meeting will be held Tuesday at the Bentley School.

The following was submitted by the City of Salem Planning Office:

The City of Salem and its consulting team will hold a final public meeting on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 6:30p.m. at the , 25 Memorial Drive, Salem to discuss recommendations from the City’s consulting team on the reuse of Dominion Energy’s Salem Harbor Power Station site.

Mayor Kimberley Driscoll stated, “After a nine month long process with State and City Officials, area stakeholders, and the guidance of our hired consultants, we now have a better understanding of the complexity of the site and the energy market.”

The Mayor also added “We want to be proactive and work toward a reuse option that is realistic and in the best interests of the community. I encourage residents to attend this final meeting to better understand the complexity of the site, to hear the recommendations and findings of the study, and offer their input.”

The purpose of this study is to understand the site context, review current economic trends and power demands in the region, and explore potential scenarios and alternative land use concepts for reuse, including associated costs, benefits, and issues.

The City retained the services of Jacobs Engineering Group, in conjunction with Sasaki Associates, LaCapra Energy Consultants, and Robert Charles Lesser & Company to undertake this study.

The study is being paid for with a grant the City obtained from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Technology Center
