Pregnant Woman Assaulted in Pedestrian Mall

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police log:
Wednesday, Oct. 26
- At 2:36 p.m. police were called to Leavitt Street for a report of kids throwing rocks and sticks at geese.
- At 3:37 p.m. a person called police to report a suspicious person standing on top of the Salem/Beverly bridge. No one was there when police arrived.
- At 5 p.m. police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Derby Street.

- At 12:35 a.m. police issued a city noise ordinance to a person hosting a party on Ocean Avenue. It was not the first time police were called about noise, the police log said.
- At 3:06 a.m. police on patrol on Sewall Street witnessed a man looking into cars and checking door handles. The man got into one of the cars parked in the Sewall Street lot. The man told police he was homeless and looking for a place to sleep. Police arrested Jason McKenney (see below).
- At 10:36 a.m. police obtained a search warrant for 10 Abbot Street and conducted a search of the area. Daniel B. Stone was arrested (see below). The investigation started after numerous neighborhood complaints, police said.
- At 11:18 a.m. police responded to the pedestrian mall for a domestic dispute. A pregnant woman was punched in the stomach multiple times, thrown against a wall and placed in a headlock. Daniel Wright, who was known to the woman, was arrested. The woman was transported to Salem Hospital.Â
- At 12:05 p.m. a child was locked in a vehicle on Highland Avenue by accident.Â
- At 3:13 p.m. a resident of Lafayette Street reported her mailbox was tampered with.
The following people were arrested:
- Jason M. McKenney, 28, homeless, was arrested Thursday and charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime.
- Daniel B. Stone, 29, 10 Abbot St., was arrested Thursday and charged with illegal possession of class A substance, possession of class A with intent to distribute, possession of drugs with intent to distribute in a school zone, possession of a firearm without identification and unlicensed possession of ammunition.Â
- Daniel Walter Wright Jr., 20, 22 Park St., was arrested Thursday and charged with four counts of aggregated assault and battery.
