Salem Household Hazardous Waste Day Set For Sept. 12

Salem and Beverly residents can drop off items such as motor oil, chemicals, pesticides, car batteries, propane cylinders and paint.

Mayor Kimberly Driscoll and the Salem Board of Health announce that the City of Salem will hold their annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection day on Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at Salem High School, 77 Willson Street, Salem, MA.

The hazardous waste collection day is open to Salem and Beverly residents. Residents of other communities can attend the event from 11am-12, they should call the Salem Board of Health for pricing.

The Cost per car is $20.00, CASH ONLY, and proof of residency is required.

NO COMMERCIAL VEHICLES ALLOWED.

Salem and Beverly residents can drop off items such as motor oil, chemicals, pesticides, car batteries, propane cylinders, and paint.

**Please note: TIRES and LATEX PAINT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED (Air dry latex paint in cans and place in regular trash).**

Due to the ongoing pandemic the following COVID related protocols have been put in place to protect employees working the event and residents coming to dispose of hazardous waste. These protocols will be strictly enforced:

  • Household Hazardous Waste will only be accepted from pickup truck beds, trunks, and the back of SUVs (waste will not be removed from the interior of vehicles or handed to staff from residents)
  • Containers used to transport household hazardous waste will not be returned to the owner – this includes but is not limited to gas containers and storage totes.
  • Any resident who attempts to or exits their car will be asked to leave the event and will not be allowed to dispose of their waste.
  • All residents must wear a mask or face covering while disposing of waste

As household hazardous waste day will take place the morning of September 12, 2020, COVID testing for that day will take place from 2-6PM.
