Salem Man Accused Of Stealing $45,000 Through Insurance Scheme

The Attorney general's office says Benjamin Johnson, 47, of Salem, set up a shell company to collect money under a long-term care policy.

SALEM, MA — A Salem man was indicted Monday on charges of larceny over $250 by false pretenses and fraudulent insurance claim, according to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office. Investigators say Benjamin Johnson, 47, set up a shell home health care company called White Shores Home Health and collected more than $45,000 in payments between March 2016 and January 2017 under his father's long-term care policy from John Hancock Life Insurance Company for services that were never performed.

Last year, Johnson was charged with elder abuse against his father by the Essex County District Attorney's office. That case is still pending in Essex Superior Court.
