UPDATED: Salem Police Assisting after Fatal Lynn Shooting

Salem Police said the shooting occurred in Allen Avenue in Lynn; victim ultimately transported to Salem Hospital.

Salem patrolmen and detectives are currently on Highland Avenue/Trader's Way preserving evidence and identifying any witnesses after a shooting that occurred on Allen Avenue in Lynn, said.

Just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, scanner alerts indicated a 25-year-old male victim was in a vehicle with a gunshot wound at plaza.

The victim presumably got to Salem from Lynn in the vehicle.

Emergency medical services were flagged down and the victim was initally being transported to Mass General Hospital, but was later diverted to during the trip.

Salem Police said they alerted Lynn police of the shooting and were "identifying witnessing and holding them" until Lynn Police arrived on scene.

At 5:03 p.m., it was reported Lynn police had arrived on scene and a Toyota Corolla was being towed from the scene. The Corolla was on the side of the road by the McDonald's plaza.

also responded to the scene.

6:25 p.m. — Scanners reports indicated the shooting was fatal and the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
