SALEM, MA – Anyone who's wondered what it's like to be a Salem police officer will have a chance to find out: The next Citizens' Police Academy will start on March 29.

The academy is meant to offer insight into the Salem Police Department, discuss current-day policing, and give an understanding of the day-to-day duties of a police officer. Topics covered will include patrol, firearms, search and seizure, underwater criminal investigation, modern police technology, use of force, among other areas of interest.

The weekly classes, which will take place on Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Salem Police Station, are taught by patrolmen and superior officers. The academy will also host a ride along for participants who have attended at least eight of the 10 classes.
