Salem SNAP-Loss Residents Can Receive Donated $25 Grocery Gift Cards

The city of Salem is partnering with the Salem YMCA on the program through the Salem Children's Alliance and Food Policy Council.

SALEM, MA — Salem residents experiencing a loss of SNAP food-assistance benefits amid the funding freeze are eligible for $25 grocery gift cards through a partnership between the city and the Salem YMCA.

Qualifying residents should call 781-990-7071 to reserve a time to pick up the card.4

The city last week put out a call for donations of gift cards and to The Salem Pantry amid the expected increase in demand after the Trump Administration said benefits would be frozen as of Nov. 1 while the federal government remains closed.

"Thanks to the many generous Salem residents who have already stepped up to donate grocery gift cards to support our neighbors in need during this difficult time," Mayor Dominick Pangallo said. "Close to one in four Salem families rely on SNAP to put food on their table. And we're coming together as a community to help them.

Those who would like to donate one or more $25 gift cards for this program can drop them off at the Salem YMCA at 1 Sewall Street.
