Salem Stolen Car Chase Ends In Rollover Crash, 3 Teens Charged: Police

Salem police said three juveniles are facing charges after the crash that shut down Washington Street on Monday night.

SALEM, MA — Three teens are facing charges after Salem police said they stole a car on Salem Street on Monday night, sped away from police and were involved in a rollover crash that closed Washington Street.

Police said the white 2018 Kia Soul was reported stolen in the area of Broad Street at about 7:45, and additional reports were that the car was seen driving erratically in the area of Salem Street. Police said that when officers approached the parked car on Salem Street, the driver "sped off at a high rate of speed in the direction of Harbor Street."

Less than a minute later, police said they attempted to stop the car on Washington Street before it crashed, rolled over and crossed the median. One boy and two girls were able to get out of the car with police saying they were taken into custody at the scene and taken to police headquarters for a medical evaluation.

One of the teens was transported to Salem Hospital for evaluation and subsequently released.

Police said the boy from Lynn will be charged with larceny, receiving a stolen car, unlicensed operation, negligent operation, speeding, lane violations, failure to stop for police and a red light, and a passing violation.

The two girls will be charged with larceny and receiving a stolen car.

After booking and medical evaluation, all three juveniles were released to their parents or guardian.
