The Staples location in Wilmington closed in January 2013 and the former retail space is still empty. The Wilmington store closure followed an announcement in September 2012 that the company would be closing 30 stores. Staples locations in Salem at Vinnin Square, Beverly at North Beverly Plaza and both locations in Danvers are still open.
Along with those store closures last year, the company also said it planned to reduce the size of some of its North American stores, close 45 stores and offices in Europe and shake up its leadership team. Company officials had hoped these measures would boost revenue.
