Paul Tucker will be Salem’s new state representative.
The longtime Salem police officer and current chief was elected with 75.9 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s election. Tucker, a Democrat, will take over for John Keenan, also a Democrat, who served five terms but decided to not seek reelection and resigned in August to become a vice president at Salem State University.
Tucker received 10,170 votes to Libertarian Dan Morris’ 1,932 votes, or 14.4 percent, according to results from City Clerk Cheryl LaPointe.
