Unlicensed Cab Driver Strikes, Seriously Injures Pedestrian

A taxi cab driver without a driver's license struck and seriously injured a pedestrian in a Boston Street parking lot.

A man was seriously injured when a taxi cab struck him while pulling a U-turn in a Boston Street parking lot in Salem on Monday night.

Police said it happened at about 5:17 p.m. in the parking lot at Sunshine Laundry at 19 Boston St. in Salem.

The victim, an unidentified man in his 40s, was seriously injured and taken to Salem Hospital with serious head trauma. He was later taken by MedFlight helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital, one of his friends told Salem Patch.

The man was struck by a 2004 yellow Salem Taxi, according to police, and the driver, Marlon Reyes-Polanco, 23, of 4 Buxton St., Peabody stuck around after the crash. He was later arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to use care in turning.

The taxi cab had minor damage to the front end, including to the left front bumper, and was towed away.
