Woman Robbed on Cedar Street

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police log:

Monday, Dec. 5

  • At 5:20 p.m. police responded to Federal and Washington streets for a woman on the ground.
  • A fight was reported in the street on Lafayette at 6:24 p.m. Police did not find any fight when they arrived.
  • At 6:25 p.m. police responded to Fort Avenue for a suspicious person. A resident met police when they arrived and told police he saw a woman sleeping in the bushes by the half shell in the Willows park. Police found the woman and she told them she had had a fight with her husband earlier and had taken a walk to cool off. Police sent her on her way.
  • At 6:36 p.m. police were called to for a report of attempted larceny of a television. Walmart employees showed police a surveillance video of a man wearing a yellow hard hat and vest in the back loading dock. The man was holding a piece of paper and told employees he was a contractor. The man then tried to steal a television valued at $740, by removing it out the backdoor. The alarm sounded as the man tried to walk outdoors with it. When managers began to confront the man, he walked out the backdoor and started walking away at a fast pace. The employees followed the man to his car and got his license plate number. Police are investigating the incident.
  • At 6:43 p.m. a person went into the police station to report a past assault. The man told police he was walking down Dow Street when he was attacked. The man told police he had an ongoing issue with the suspect and he had attacked him in the past. Police advised the man to go to court and file a complaint.
  • At 7:26 p.m. police responded to Cedar Street for a report of an armed robbery. A woman told police she was walking on Cedar Street when two men stopped her and asked for a cigarette. When she stopped, one of the men grabbed her from behind and held a sharp object to her throat. She was then punched in the eye and dragged across the street. The men took her cell phone, wallet, and $120. The men fled toward Canal Street and police did not locate the suspects.
  • At 8:41 p.m. a Harbor Street woman told police she was threatened. The woman told police an old friend borrowed clothes and would not return them. When she told the friend she wanted them back, the friend told the woman she would beat her up, kill her dog and step-father. When the threats were made, the woman was on speaker phone and the step-father heard the threats. When police called the friend she told them it would be a few days but she would return the clothes. The woman denied making threats. Police will summons the friend on charges of threatening to commit a crime (murder).

Tuesday, Dec. 6

  • At 1:47 a.m. police arrested Karl Graham, 26, 5 Leavitt Ct., on five warrants for drug possession, counterfeit drugs and larceny out of Lynn District Court, following a motor vehicle stop.
  • At 3:15 a.m., Aaron L. Savino, 20, 23 Gage St., Beverly, was arrested on warrants for assault with a dangerous weapon charges out of Salem District Court. Upon a search of his car, police found a hypodermic needle and steroids. Police additionally charged the man with possession of class E drugs.
  • At 10 a.m. a resident reported their car was broken into overnight on Pope Street.
  • At 1:34 p.m. a woman reported she was jogging near Forest River when she was followed by a vehicle. The two men in the vehicle never said anything to her but she saw them multiple times on her run. Police did not locate the vehicle.
  • At 1:48 p.m. a resident of High Street reported their home had been broken into.

The following people were arrested Tuesday:

  • James T. Dexter, 40, 100 Congress St., was arrested on a warrant.
  • David Emory Dion, 47, 56 Margin St., was arrested on two warrants.
  • Karl A. Graham, 26, 5 Leavitt Ct., was arrested on five warrants.
  • Michael Blaise Grieco, 61, 56 Margin St., was arrested on a warrant.
  • Kevin Mark Melcher, 46, 56 Margin St., was arrested on a warrant.
  • Perry Gibson Robinson, 51, 56 Margin St., was arrested on a warrant.
  • Aaron L. Savino, 20, 23 Gage St., Beverly, was arrested on a warrant and also on charges of possession of class E substance.
