Blizzard '13 Clean-Up Ongoing in Seekonk
Seekonk Department of Public Works is working on widening the roads in town and removing the snow.

The storm may be over in Seekonk, but the work is far from over, according to town officials.
Seekonk department of public works superintendent Robert Lamoureux said they are continuing the snow cleanup effort, which will probably continue throughout the week.

“There are a lot of streets that haven’t been widened yet, but all of our streets have been plowed,” he said. “We’re going to continuing to do cleanup work during the week.”
Lamoureux said that the town weathered the blizzard quite well.

“From my perspective, it’s progressed quite well for the town of Seekonk,” he said.
“All in all, I would say we’re in as good or better condition as all our surrounding communities.”
He added this success was despite many problems with equipment both failing and not being able to handle the aggressive amounts of snow that came down on the town.
“There were many problems,” he said. “This was not a typical storm No. 1. The magnitude of the storm dictates a lot of what you can and cannot do. A lot of our smaller vehicles we couldn’t use to plow.”
He added the town rented additional equipment, including a backhoe and a loader, to help mitigate the storm.
Lamoureux said that during the storm, the school department sent some of their snow removal vehicles to help clear the roads, and the DPW is now returning the favor.
“The schools assisted us in our plowing effort over the weekend and we are now assisting the schools in trying to get the schools open,” he said.
