Seekonk Bank Robber Gets 6 Years In Prison

Michael Dirocco, of Rhode Island, admitted to robbing Seekonk's Webster Bank at gunpoint in 2014.

SEEKONK, MA — A man who robbed a Seekonk bank then crashed into a tree during the getaway was sentenced to six years in prison on Wednesday. Michael Dirocco, 35, of Cranston, Rhode Island, admitted to robbing Webster Bank in Seekonk at gunpoint in November 2014. Police said he stole more than $10,000 and fled the scene in a black sport utility vehicle.

Dirocco put some thought into his getaway — police said he switched license plates and ditched his SUV for a pickup truck. But a witness tipped off police and within minutes and officers located his truck. Dirocco then crashed into a tree just over the Rhode Island border and was taken into custody.

Dirocco pleaded guilty to armed robbery in September 2016 and was held in custody until his sentencing Wednesday in federal court in Boston. He was sentenced to 77 months in prison by Judge Douglas Woodlock.
