Seekonk Selectmen Deny Easter Flower Sales License

The Seekonk Board of Selectmen voted 5-0 to deny Barry Edelstein a transient vendor license to sell flowers during the Easter weekend.

“It’s a problem corner,” said committee member Robert McLintock. “I don’t have any problem with them selling flowers, but I do with the location. It could cause a problem.”

The location is on 625 Fall River Ave. which intersects with County Street.

Selectman Gary Sagar said he had a problem with the short period of sale, as it could hurt local businesses in the town who pay fees, licenses and taxes year round.

“It’s a slap in the face to the businesses in town,” he said.

“This has been an issue,” McLintock said. “It does eat at the people who work here all the time.”

Attorney Laurie O’Shea, who represented Edelstein during the meeting, said he works year-round at the Raynham Flea Market and pays permit and license fees for that. She also said Edelstein had obtained a license three or four years ago without a problem.

Selectman David Parker added the Seekonk Board of Health was against granting the license as well.

“There was no reason stated though,” he said.
