The results of the spring 2013 MCAS are in, with most students in the Swansea school district scoring better than others in the state.
Overall the percentage of Swansea students who scored proficient or higher in English was 73 percent, compared to 71 percent last year. In math, 63 percent scored proficient or higher compared to 59 percent in 2012. The percentage of Swansea students who scored proficient or higher in science and technology was the same in 2013 as 2012 with 59 percent.
Twenty one percent of Swansea students placed in the advanced category while 52 scored proficient. The state scored 19 percent and 50 percent respectively. In mathematics, 27 percent of the district were deemed advanced while 36 percent were proficient. The state scored 28 percent and 33 percent respectively. In science and technology, 15 percent of the district were categorized as advanced while the state was at 15 percent. Forty four percent of the district fell into the proficient category with the state coming in at 37 percent.
