NEW BEDFORD — Almost two dozen students from New Bedford High School were taken to the hospital Thursday after being exposed to chemicals in a science lab, the fire department said.

Two of the students were taken to St. Luke's Hospital by ambulance after experiencing "mild symptoms," and another 22 students were taken by school bus out of "an abundance of caution" along with firefighters, paramedics, and school personnel on board, emergency crews said.

Firefighters were called to the school just before 10 a.m. for a reported exposure incident involving chemicals at a science lab, according to firefighters.
