West Nile Virus Found in Seekonk, Swansea

Two discoveries were made in Seekonk and one in Swansea.

Two cases of West Nile Virus were discovered in Seekonk and one was discovered in Swansea.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services, the disoveries were made in mosquitoes on July 30 in Seekonk and on Aug. 2 in Swansea.

The discoveries are the first this year in Seekonk and Swansea, but not the first in the area. WNV has also been discovered in nearby communities like Norton, Attleboro, Easton, Fall River and Freetown.

So far, there have been no cases of eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in Bristol County, but a EEE discovery was made in Hanover.
