Expanded Transit Service For Car-Free Travel In Shrewsbury

The Via-WRTA service expansion is making it easier for residents to travel without a car.

SHREWSBURY, MA — An updated service is making it easier for Shrewsbury residents to travel around without a car.

The on-demand transit service, called Via-WRTA, has expanded services for riders in multiple towns, including Shrewsbury. Residents will now have access to the Shrewsbury Town Hall, Senior Center and Public Library.

The Worcester Regional Transit Authority service works like a taxi, but can hold multiple passengers, like a bus. Riders can request a pickup directly through their phone by entering their pickup and drop-off zones in the app.

The expansion now allows for specific stops outside the designated zones in Shrewsbury, Northborough and Westborough. That includes the Southborough MBTA Station, the Solomon Pond Mall and downtown Northborough.

Service hours are Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and it’s only $2 per ride. Via-WRTA also announced that all vehicles are now wheelchair accessible.
