Recent Break-Ins Attributed to Increased Gold Prices
Quick cash opportunities allow Shrewsbury-area thieves quick money opportunities.

In Shrewsbury and all across the MetroWest area break-ins and larcenies have been on the rise since summer ended.
Shrewsbury Police Sergeant Chuck Pratt said this recent increase isn't something new for the department though.
"We've seen an increase in break-ins over the past five years," Pratt said. "They come and they go but this is something we've seen before."

According to Pratt more break-ins have been occurring in the day because the thieves assume residents will be out of the house at work.
"When it's easy to get in to your house and not get caught, you're going to get hit," he said.

One of the reasons Pratt said the break-ins might be higher as of recently, is the increased value of precious metals.
Most of the larcenies have been quick in and out break-ins. Small items like cash and jewelry have been targeted.
The best way to prevent a break-in is to make sure your house isn't an easy target.
"Install security lights, activate your alarm, lock your doors," Pratt said.
