September Heat Wave In Shrewsbury: How Hot Will It Get?

SHREWSBURY, MA — Meteorological fall began on Friday, but it'll be way too summer-like to enjoy any pumpkin spice this week.

The first full week of September will come with a heat wave, with temperatures and humidity conspiring to push head indices into the mid-to-upper 90s over the next few days in the Shrewsbury area, according to the National Weather Service.

The last real round of extreme heat hit the region the week of July 24. Temperatures haven't been as high since, and even dropped into the 40s in some areas — including northern Worcester County — just last week.

The heat will be worse slightly to the west where a heat advisory covers the Connecticut River Valley, but the local temperatures will also be high enough to take note. Here's the week's forecast for the area — including a relatively cool end to the week.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 69. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the evening.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 94. Southwest wind 3 to 7 mph.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. South wind 8 to 14 mph.
