Investigators were first alerted in the summer of 2015 from an inspector at the USPC office that suspicious internet searches were being conducted from a computer at the Shrewsbury facility, where Mantha worked as an electronic technician. Investigators installed a recorder that tracked activity, as well as a video camera. They captured that Mantha searched for and viewed child pornography on those computers.

Investigators also found numerous thumb drives at Mantha's residence that contained child pornography, including a video that had been recorded around 2000 or 2001 one of Mantha sexually abusing a boy who was around seven years old. Agents found the boy, who is now an adult, and confirmed the abuse.
