Shrewsbury Town Meeting Forum Aims To Draft New Members
Shrewsbury is one of the handful of towns that elect representatives to Town Meeting. A new forum will show residents how.

SHREWSBURY, MA — With the town election coming up this spring, Shrewsbury officials will hold a special forum this week focused on how residents can become Town Meeting representatives.
Town Meeting is the town's legislative body — kind of like the U.S. Congress or the state Legislature — and representatives meet each spring to vote on very important town issues, like approving the budget (and sometimes meet more than yearly for special meetings).
In Massachusetts, Town Meeting comes in two forms: representative and open. Shrewsbury is one of 32 towns that use the representative Town Meeting, which means members need to be elected to attend and vote. In 2024, there will be 80 Town Meeting seats up for election across the town's 10 precincts, with terms varying between one and three years.
