Bicyclist in Serious Condition After Alewife Brook Parkway Accident

A Somerville teenager was taken to the hospital early Monday morning with serious injuries after a bicycle crash on Alewife Brook Parkway.

A bicyclists is in serious condition after being struck by a car on Alewife Brook Parkway, Route 16, early Monday morning, Massachusetts State Police said.

The bicyclist, a 19-year-old Somerville man, tried crossing Route 16 at the intersection with Broadway at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, even though he had a red light, according to a state police press release. A 2006 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 46-year-old Medford man hit the bicyclist in the eastbound lane.

The bicyclists was taken by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he remained in serious condition as of 9 a.m. Monday. The driver of the car was uninjured. The driver was not at fault in the accident, according to a preliminary investigation. Neither individual has been identified by police.
