Butchered Human Remains Allegedly Found In This Man's Apartment

In addition to charges related to a grim scene on Saturday, Carlos Colina faces assault charges from a November incident.

It appears this Facebook page, still active as of Tuesday morning, belongs to a Cambridge man being held on $1 million cash bail for charges related to a ghoulish incident from the weekend.

Carlos Colina has been accused of disposing a mutilated torso in a duffel bag, and authorities say other disembodied human remains were discovered at his home soon after on Saturday morning.

Neither the District Attorney’s Office nor Cambridge Police have confirmed this as Colina’s Facebook. But the similarities between this “Carlos Colina” and the one depicted in news reports: name, build, taste in eyewear, hairstyle, hobbies, and general geographic location - make a case of mistaken identity highly unlikely.

One could argue that the flexing photo scans as an unusual, if not immodest, choice for a 32-year-old adult to place at the forefront of a social media account. But it hardly screams “potential sociopath.” His interests don’t necessarily look like red flags, either. Colina liked pages of various fitness experts, and is apparently a fan of the late rapper Big Pun.

But Colina is said to have a violent history. The Boston Globe reports he was banned from a gym and charged with assault in November after attacking a fellow gymrat. A witness remembers Colina triumphantly chanting “I’m a beast! I’m a beast!” after trainers broke up the scuffle.

The gruesome scene on Saturday unfolded when a human torso and limbs were discovered in a duffel bag nearby Kendall Crossing, where Colina has lived since 2004, according to the Globe.

The ensuing investigation led authorities to Colina’s third-floor apartment, where limbs, a head, and a foot were discovered in a recycling bin. A rope, a bloody handsaw, and a bevvy of cleaning supplies are also said to have been found by police.

“Why am I a suspect?” Colina reportedly asked during his arrest.

The victim was later identified as 26-year-old Jonathan Camilien, of Somerville.

A neighbor interviewed by the Globe recalled Camilien as a “quiet person. He liked music. That little kid did not bother anybody.”

Authorities have confirmed Colina and Camilien knew each other, but haven’t been more specific about their relationship. Colina has not been charged with murder.
