Does Somerville Have Boston's Best Dive Bar?
An online March Madness competition asks that question. You can vote for Somerville's entry through 11 p.m. Thursday.

On Wednesday I posted a story about Boston.com's "Munch Madness" competition, which pits 64 Boston-area restaurants against each other in a March Madness style bracket. Nine Somerville restaurants are in the competition.
Today—Thursday—a reader pointed out another March Madness style bracket with a Somerville contender.
Called the "Shite Sixteen," the bracket is a loving homage to Boston's dive bars.

The phrase "dive bar" has become a term of endearment in Boston and elsewhere, and I don't think WeLoveBeantown.com, the site running the competition, is trying to disparage the bars in its bracket.
Good thing, because Somerville wouldn't go for that.
Sligo has been in Davis Square since before the area was the trendy restaurant destination it is today. Its owner has tales to tell about changes in the neighborhood, about immigrating from Ireland in the 1950s and about running bars throughout Boston in an era when shakedowns from mobsters weren't uncommon. In other words, it's worth stopping by Sligo if you've never visited. You can read a bit more here.
