Environmental Protest Taking Place In Busy Somerville Square

The protest will attempt to block traffic on Friday.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Climate Advocate Group Extinction Rebellion is staging a demonstration Friday evening in Davis Square beginning at 6 p.m.

The organization will gather dressed in black in front of Mike’s Foods and Spirits and execute what it calls a “mock funeral” meant to be for the demise of the stable climate.

“The general public has remained largely passive while the billionaire class has trashed the planet in the name of private profit,” the organization said in a statement about why it is conducting this protest. “Extinction Rebellion’s event in Davis Square is an invitation to everyday working people to come together, organize, and fight for a livable future.”
