SOMERVILLE, MA — The city is installing six new electric vehicle charging stations in six different locations, Mayor Katjana Ballantyne announced.

The following locations are slated to get a new station: 6 Newbury St., Teele Square, 131 Josephine Ave., Ball Square, 139 Hudson St., Hudson Labyrinth, 63 Evergreen Ave., 51 Munroe St., Prospect Hill Park, and 11 Stone Ave.

Potential areas for installation were identified during a citywide evaluation that took place in 2023. The locations were reportedly chosen based on whether it included business districts, multi-family housing, and high concentrations of low-income households.
The project was funded through the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s On-Street Charging Solutions Program, with up to $500,000 of installation services to be provided through Commonwealth Electrical Technologies.

With these new additions, Somerville’s charging station total increases to 19.
