1) Laura Pitone's Ward 5 School Committee Kickoff Event
Laura Pitone, who's running for School Committee in Ward 5, is holding a campaign kickoff tonight at 6 p.m. at The Center for Arts at the Armory. (Candidates, you can enter campaign events here and blog about your campaign here.)

2) Rainwater Harvesting for Urban Gardeners
So, this is timely, given the recent rainy weather. The Somerville Garden Club is hosting a talk about collecting rainwater for gardening. According to the listing it's "a talk by Josh Briggs focusing on small scale rainwater harvesting systems suitable for the urban gardener. He will discuss techniques ranging from a simple gravity system to more sophisticated approaches." The talk is at 7 p.m. at 167 Holland St.

3) Somerville First Grader Wins "My Ideal School" Drawing Contest
According to an announcement, "Anna Mateo, a first grader at the East Somerville Community School in Somerville, was one of 12 regional winners of the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s (MSBA) annual 'My Ideal School' contest sponsored by Sovereign Bank." 4) Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation Gala
Somerville resident E. Abim Thomas was on the gala committee for the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation's 30th anniversary bash, according to an announcement. The organization helps provide legal aid to low-income people, and former U.S. Solicitor General Seth Waxman was the speaker at the gala.
