Nonprofit Semi-pro Soccer Team Coming Soon To Somerville (patch.com) — Somerville residents can look forward to a new nonprofit semi-pro soccer club, Somerville United FC, kicking off its first season this spring in the American Premier Soccer League. Founded by local couple Robert and Alesandra Onjiko, the team will play at George Dilboy Memorial Stadium and aims to expand affordable, inclusive soccer opportunities. Tryouts start soon, and a women’s team is planned before year’s end.

Location Of New Somerville School Decided (patch.com) — Somerville’s Construction Advisory Group has chosen 115 Sycamore St., the former Winter Hill Community Innovation School site, as the preferred location for a new preK–8 school, rejecting Trum Field after strong community opposition and higher costs. Members remain split on how large the school should be and what to do with the Benjamin G. Brown School, decisions that will shape future enrollment, services, and neighborhood school options.

The 'Urban Mechanic' Is Inaugurated In Somerville (patch.com) — Somerville’s new mayor, Jake Wilson, has been sworn in and is promising an ā€œurban mechanicā€ approach focused on fixing everyday problems quickly. He plans to improve communication, transparency, and response times from City Hall while tackling housing diversity and tenant protections. Wilson says his priorities grew from years of living in Winter Hill and listening to residents’ frustrations on sidewalks, porches, and at school pickups.

4. ā€˜I don't want to be in the statistics': Somerville hosts flu clinic among rising cases - Boston News, Weather, Sports (whdh.com) — Somerville is offering free flu and COVID-19 shots at the Central Library as flu cases and related deaths rise across Massachusetts. Local health officials say this year’s shot may be less effective against the current strain but still strongly recommend vaccination to reduce severe illness and hospitalizations. Residents who missed earlier clinics are showing up now, worried about a particularly bad flu season.
