Somerville Energy Rates Remain Despite Eversource Increase

The rate changes are slated to take effect in August.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The city announced its electricity rates for participants in its Community Choice Electricity program will not change despite an upcoming increase from Eversource, the city’s residential energy provider.

On Friday Aug. 1, Eversource’s rate will increase to 14.884 cents per kilowatt hour. The previous rates were 13.241 for residents and 13.078 for residents and businesses respectively. However, city leadership emphasized its belief that its CCE rates remain a superior option.

“While Eversource updates its rates every six months, Somerville has secured its CCE rates through January 2028, offering long-term price stability and ongoing support for renewable energy,” Mayor Katjana Ballantyne said in a statement. “The Local Green rate, which includes additional investment in regional renewable energy sources, remains the program’s default product.”
