SOMERVILLE, MA — A fire heavily damaged a home in Somerville Wednesday, the fire department said. The fire was reported at 40 Everett Ave. just after 12:30 p.m. There was extensive fire damage to the first floor, with smoke and water resulting in heavy damage throughout the house, the department said. The sole occupant was not home at the time of the fire. Damages were estimated to be over $250,000, Fire Chief Charles Breen said.
