Somerville Looks To Help Fire Victims With Emergency Fund

The city is asking community members to donate to the fund.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Mayor Ruthanne Fuller and the Somerville Homeless Coalition have activated an emergency fund to assist the more than 25 people who have been displaced due to afire earlier this week.

The flames broke out at the triple-decker home on Sunday, July 6 at the home on 81 Wheatland St. Many fire departments assisted with extinguishing the blaze, and the cause of what started it remains under investigation.

The fund is designed to provide relief to residents who fall victim to thee types of incidents as fast as possible. According to the city, it can provide things such as food, medicine, transportation, and other personal products for those who need it. It is currently accepting donations online.

Cit departments have come together to provide temporary shelter and food to the victims, however Ballantyne said the fund is necessary for longer-term relief.
