Another Step Taken In Somernova Expansion Project
The property developer and Union Square neighborhood reached a community benefits agreeent earlier this month.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The City Council voted unanimously to approve a zoning ordinance that allows for the Somernova Business Park campus expansion on Properzi Way.
The ordinance amends the location from a fabrication designation to a Research and Development designation. This new classification allows for taller buildings while mandating that 8% of commercial space be set aside for arts use.
Earlier this month, the Union Square neighborhood and Rafi Properties reached a community benefits agreement that allows the developer to conduct the project while also leaving space for art, music, and youth community spaces to remain. When the CBA passed with a more than 70% approval rate, it was then up to the council to make the zoning change.
